Hailing from West Palm Beach, Florida, hardcore punk outfit CENTURIES will be releasing their latest LP, exclusive discography BROKEN HYMNS, through HALO OF FLIES and THIS CHARMING MAN RECORDS on April 23, 2013. Recently signed to Southern Lord Records, Centuries recorded four brand new tracks for Broken Hymns, which also features songs compiled from the band's out of print EPs and splits (Centuries & Patsy O'Hara split 7", Creation/Extinction7", Centuries & Homestretch split 7"). The band, who shares two members with Dove Swallower, took part in SXSW 2013, and has performed live with bands like Gaza, Capitalist Casualties, Weekend Nachos, Skin Like Iron, Fell To Low, Code Orange Kids, Call Of The Void, Heartless, Dead In the Dirt, Full Of Hell, Ceremony, Trash Talk and Bane.
Broken Hymns is an insight into Centuries' evolution both musically and spiritually:
"Our collective decisions as a band have hardly ever been premeditated. The band was started not from a particular goal, but as a necessity. Hardcore and punk shows got us through adolescence, so it was natural for us to find an unconscious need to partake in our own way. Centuries was at times a comfort blanket, at other times a directly blunt outlet, and every step taken greatly exceeds our initial expectations."
I do not like Converge nearly as much as many other people evidently do, so maybe this adds more heft to what I am about to say: Eve is unquestionably one of 2017’s best metal songs, and I keep coming back to it without ever tiring of it. Atmospheric, aggressive, dynamic, and uncompromisingly powerful, these 7+ minutes exceed what many other bands can do on a full album. I would love to hear an entire album of Eve-like material, but this might be a lot to ask. Ippocalyptica
